- VICTIM'S ADVOCATE -
With the push in law enforcement right now on
domestic violence, the Somerset Police Department saw a need for a
Domestic Violence Victim Advocate. The goal of our program is to provide
assistance to our victims of violent crimes, regardless of age, sex or
social background.
The
program has also provided assistance to victims of violent crimes in the
form of legal and medical advocacy.
Our
division provides support services including, but not limited to,
emergency services, crisis counseling, and referral to service based
agencies.
The
ultimate goal is to restore the victim to normalcy as soon as possible
following their victimization during a violent crime.
We
also encourage and assist victims in the prosecution of perpetrators
when it is appropriate to do so.
The
program is made possible through the work of Detective Michael Grigsby.
The
Victim Advocacy Division is also active with all support groups and the
Bethany House Spouse Abuse Shelter, along with Kentuckians Voice for
Crime Victims Organization.
