The Somerset Police Department has a full time position of Evidence Technician to enhance our handling of evidence and property.

Evidence Technician John Swiderski was hired in 1999 and is retired from the US Navy after serving 29 years in the Military Police.

The Evidence Technician is responsible for the integrity of evidence placed in his care, and for submitting evidence to the Kentucky State Police Crime Laboratories for examination.  All forms of evidence and found property, such as money, narcotics, recovered stolen property, and firearms are stored in the police department’s vault and property facilities.

The property office has been recognized during past re-accreditation by the accreditation committee when it was chosen to be a model for the state.
