MISSION
STATEMENT OF THE SOMERSET POLICE DEPARTMENT
We,
the members of the Somerset Police Department, believe in the dignity and
worth of all people. We are committed to providing high quality community
oriented police services with sensitivity, protecting constitutional
rights, problem solving, teamwork, continuous improvement, openness,
planning for the future, and providing leadership to the police
profession. We are proud of our work force which permits us to grow, and
which respects each of us as individuals, and we strive for a healthy
workplace.
At
the present time the Somerset Police Department is involved in many
community oriented policing efforts. Some examples are Citizen's
Police
Academy
(of which we graduated our first class of 34 citizens in April, 1997),
Police Substation. We also do seminars for our local businesses
which deal with bad checks, credit card fraud, counterfeit monies, armed
robberies and business security checks, which has been very successful.
We have a school resource officer serving the Somerset School System.
We have one of the oldest Explorer Posts in the state which is very active
in our community. We also conduct bicycle rodeos, child
identification programs held at businesses, and give talks to the various
church groups, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, etc. Last but not least, we must
not forget our senior citizens who are very active in our community. We
have other groups such as the Widow-to-Widow support group, and visit the
Somerset Senior Citizens center regularly, where they can talk about
anything that is on their mind.
