- Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) -

In 2008, the Somerset Police Department began training officers in Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training.

CIT officers received training from a partnership between law enforcement and the mental health community aimed at providing an intelligent, understandable, and safe approach to mental crisis events.

The training gives CIT officers a better understanding on how to deal with a mental health situation.  This approach increases officer safety and results in a higher probability of getting proper help for the sufferer of the mental illness.

Captain Jeff Phillippi, Officer Matthew Gates, and Officer Larry Patterson were the first to receive the training.
