
- Chaplain -
The Somerset Police Department’s Chaplain is
tasked to provide guidance and counseling in matters of spiritual,
personal, family, job, or other matters to all members of the Somerset
Police Department. The Chaplain may also be requested to assist in
comforting victims or family members of the citizenry of
Somerset
.
The Chaplain is a clergyman who volunteers his
time to give support and counseling to members of the department and
community. The Chaplain must have a working knowledge of techniques
for counseling and referral agencies if needed.
Listed below are a number of duties for the
Chaplain:

Notification of injury officers or family
members
-
Respond to hospital

Counseling
-
Recruit officers
-
Respond to barricaded/hostage situations

Funeral of personnel’s family

Counseling in the community

Representing the Somerset Police Department
On
March 10, 2008
Phillip Fisher was named as the new police chaplain for the Somerset
Police Department. Fisher is the senior pastor of Bethel
Baptist
Church
.
Chaplain
Fisher is a 1979 graduate of
Stetson
University
, and holds a Master of Divinity from Southern Theological Seminary.
Fisher completed his Clinical Pastoral Residency
at
Walter Reed Army Medical Center
,
Washington
, D.C., in 1995. He served as a chaplain for the U.S. Air Force from
1982 to 1997, obtaining the rank of Major.
Fisher also served as chaplain to the West
Melbourne Police Department and the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office
in
Florida
.
