The Somerset Police Department has a full time position of Property Officer to enhance our handling of evidence and property.  John Swiderski was employed to handled the Evidence and Property office.  John is retired from the US Navy after serving 29 years in the Military Police and has extensive experience in this field.  John organizes the property office and procedures used in regard to the handling of evidence and property.  The department has additional space for the property office in a separate property storage facility. 

The property office has been recognized during past re-accreditation by the accreditation committee when it was chosen to be a model for the state.

The property officer is responsible for the integrity of evidence placed in his care, and for submitting evidence to the Kentucky State Police Crime Laboratories for examination.
