HOSTAGE NEGOTIATIONS TEAM

The hostage negotiation team which consists of four members, works in conjunction with our Emergency Response Team in situations which involve barricaded persons or armed hostage takers. The team will make contact with the involved persons in an attempt to resolve the problem by peaceful means, and they also try to obtain the suspects surrendered.

Our hostage negotiation members undergo regular specialized training through the Department of Criminal Justice Training; specialized training through the
Institute of Police Technology and Management in addition to training from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Louisville Division of Police. The training is based on problem resolution psychological tactics which are used to convince the subject involved to accept a peaceful surrender thus eliminating any other force or action.

The team is headed by Lt. Allan Coomer.  Team members include Ofc. Allen Sexton and Det. Anthony McCollum.
